Springtime Drive with our Austin Healey friends April 28, 2012 began rather chilly at our Cars and Coffee site of the Starbucks in Kimball Junction. Chilly but the sun shone bright to warm things up soon. We meandered along the two-lane roads east then north past Rockport Lake and onto Wanship. From there the route gets a bit fuzzy but we continued on north through beautiful countryside and everything was blessedly green. Eventually we connected to west bound 84 to the turn off to Taggart’s Grill, a roadhouse that’s famous in these parts six miles east of Morgan; once tried and you’ll see why. Taggart’s was a campground and fishing destination in it’s early days and the history is in the many old photos on the walls. Yes, in one of the pictures that’s a bobcat sitting on the little girl’s lap, a fat bobcat. It showed up they fed it and it stayed. The present location is just west of the original campground, the bait shop long gone. The area is now a popular paddling and rafting stretch of the Weber River. Back on the road Ogden is 15 miles west of Morgan on 84 connecting with 89 and south to Farmington and the Salt Lake Valley. I’m in Ogden and we know the spots in Morgan well like Larry’s Spring Chicken Inn and Louis’s Authentic Mexican, for future references you see. So a beautiful day spent with our new friends from the Austin Healey group doing what we do best, drive interesting routes and enjoy local treats along the way.
