What an AWESOME drive we had last Saturday. The weather was perfect, not too hot nor too cold. Although some of us started out with the tops up on our cars, it wasn’t long before “topless” was the order of the day.
We met at the Flying J in SLC and headed north via the LBCs perfect highway, the Legacy; smooth roads, little traffic, and no trucks! Paul had gathered the troops from up north at the Rainbow Gardens where we could drain for comfort for the rest of the trip.
After a call to Berk at Taggart’s Grill to let him know when we would be there and how many we were, thirteen cars started up Ogden Canyon. What an improvement the repaving is in the canyon. The beautiful, winding road is now smooth and wider most of the way up to the dam. Trappers Loop Rd was devoid of traffic, also, and gave us incredible views of the back side of Mt Ogden.
I forgot to get out a tablet for signing up, so here are the people that I recall driving with us: Robert & Melissa Norcross, Rob & Mary Foye, Ron & Dave Christensen, Larry Farrington, Paul Jaroch, John Progess, George Flint, Dave Spendlove & Daughter, Rich Weyland, Gary (Wht TR6), Roger & Jill Davis, and then, sorry I don’t know, the couple in the dark gold Spitfire, and the gentleman who had the black Healy. A shout out to Kevin Cowan and his friend for seeing us off at the Flying J.
The drive east along side I-84 was very pleasant and the Sun kissing our faces was a reminder of how nice the day was.
When we arrived at Taggart’s Grill, the parking lot was almost full! It was a good thing that our LBCs are in fact, little. My worries that our group of 18 would have to wait to be seated were quickly dispelled, as we were ushered past the group of people ahead of us, waiting for a table. The looks on the faces of the people waiting, as we walked right by, was priceless. THANKS, BERK!
As we sat at our table, enjoying a great lunch and looking out at the peacocks that roam around the restaurant, everyone was happy that they had come on the drive and hoped that we would do it again. We sat and talked longer than we may have, but that’s what the BMCU is all about: Friends, food, and British powered vehicles bringing us all together.
Having eaten WAY too much and picked up dessert for later, we met in the parking lot, saying our goodbys. We split up with cars going in all directions. Six of us headed east to Henefer, up East Canyon and down Emigration Canyon, before heading our separate ways.
Bottom line: if you did not make it out on one of the last two Impromptu Drives, we missed you! They were great drives with fabulous weather.
This Saturday is an opportunity for all of us to get together one more time before the holiday season is on us. The Season End Dinner will be held at the Bohemian Grill, 94 East Ft Union Blvd (7200 South) Midvale, at 6:30PM.
