Here is a big THANKS to Keith Mott for researching, organizing, and pulling this event together! What a fantastic time!!! This whole event came of like clockwork and Keith did the whole schedule by dead reckoning. All he knew was where the race/rally was starting and where it was finishing. From there, he determined where we should be and at what time, to see the participants cruise past. Even the media people for the Great Race were amazed that Keith had figured out the route, time, and place.
The gentle breeze in Echo Canyon was perfect, keeping the temperature very comfortable as we waited for and watched the Racers go past our location. We watched for a while and then left to head to Evanston, WY to observe the finish of the day festivities. This was a moving car show just like the ones that the BMCU puts on everytime we have a driving event. A myriad of vehicles and a plethora of makes and models. There were vehicles from 1916 through to 1972 and everything from sedans to XKE’s, to diesel power, to even a tow truck!
If you weren’t there yesterday, then you missed, perhaps, a once in a lifetime event. The Great Race takes a different route each year, so Salt Lake City may not be on the route for many years to come.
In attendance and to the best of my recollection (I forgot the sign-in book) were the following members:
Keith and Matt Mott, Roger & Jill Davis, Drew Frink, Ari & son, Rob Foye, Larry Farrington, Kelly Honeyman, Kevin Cowan, Jim Stover & friends, Melvin Brown.
Please forgive me if I left anyone out.
Great job, Keith. We’ll see you in a few weeks, in Logan, for the Cache Valley Cruise-in. BTW, if you haven’t made hotel arrangements to stay over night on Friday, July 1st, there is still time to do so and attend a BBQ at Keith’s home in Logan.
