With apologies to Rudyard Kipling, on Labor Day, it was “Mad Dogs and English cars!”
Was the weather good? Yes.
Was the temperature HOT. Heck, yeah!!!
Did anyone show up for the State Street Cruise? OMG! By the sign-in book count and a couple of folks I saw, but weren’t in the book, there were at least 67 members and 40 vehicles!
Looking in my rear-view mirror as we headed south from the Capitol was an amazing sight. A full two lanes wide and sometimes all three lanes, were attracting all sorts of attention from other drivers, pedestrians and at least one SLPD vehicle with lights and siren. Although I saw some side trips, I don’t think anyone got lost on the way to our reserved parking at JCW’s restaurant. Once inside (yes, we took over the place) and enjoying the excellent air conditioning, management instructed the employees to take 10% off our bills!
I don’t believe anyone was sidelined by an overheating LBC as we were able to move at a quicker pace by using the lanes that were available. Many photos were taken and Roger H. has already posted a bunch on the BMCU Facebook page. Take a look. You’ll see shiny cars and smiling faces. The State St. cruise was a resounding success with more participation than we’ve ever had. Great job, members!
