On Tuesday, a hearty band of BMCU members made the trek out to Antelope Island to see the bison being given their yearly physical.
The early meeting time allowed for more time on the Island, but also meant we needed to fight the rush hour traffic. The early weather, contrary to what had been predicted, was blustery and just this side of cold. Perfect British car weather! The good news was that we had no problems with traffic and actually reached the entrance booth to the Island ahead of time! The weather on Antelope Island was much better (warmer) than on the mainland with the sun breaking through and a gentle breeze.
Once at the corals where the collected beasts were being held, we had a guided tour of the whole operation. We were allowed to actually get REALLY close to the prehistoric looking beasts and see them at just over an arm’s length distance. “Remember to keep your voices down and your hands off the top of the chute!” One by one the bison were funneled through to their “appointments” with the veterinarian crew. While they were waiting, there was all sorts of snorting, kicking, raising up on back legs and generally making all sorts of banging racket on the steel chutes. No one was napping, that is for certain.
After saying good bye to our tour leader, we headed directly to A Little Taste of Britian where they had reserved a section of the restaurant just for us. Thanks, Kent. The Fish & Chips was as good as ever and I didn’t hear any complaints about any of the food. Just lots of smiling faces as we consumed our lunch.
Making the Midweek Madness run to Antelope Island were: Ron Christensen, Roger Hemingway, Dave & Janell Venzani, Rich & Michele Weyland, Kent Jensen, Frank Mousley, Dave Christensen, Roger & Jill Davis and making a cameo appearance was Merv Brown.
