It is often said that timing is everything. From baking, to basketball, to happening on a sale for something that you’ve always wanted. We’ve all had it happen to us.
Yesterday was no exception. The weather forecast was for warmer temperatures and sunny skies. So, we planned for the Midweek Madness for Wednesday to take advantage of the prediction. It was a good decision, since the weather today, Thursday, has been rainy and overcast.
Heading out of our meeting location there were NINE British cars heading up Emigration Canyon. The goodtiming here was that there were virtually no bicyclists with which we needed to share the road. Even with our short stop for road construction, there was no vehicular traffic, either; good timing.
Hopping on I-80, the truck traffic was very heavy. That gave us the opportunity to check out the car carrier that had Mercedes, Porsche, and even red MGB in the back and on top for everyone to see. I think everyone in our group checked out the “B” as they passed the carrier. Once at the top of Parley’s Summit, the traffic thinned out and we had a comfortable drive to Silver Creek Jct.
At the Sinclair station at Silver Creek, we pulled in to see a couple more members and their cars, waiting for us. In fact, there was a group of people standing around Steen’s Midget and Shelby’s TR3. There was one couple that none of us recognized.
Right then, the transporter with the MGB pulled into the Sinclair station and the unknown couple starts going after the transporter! Turns out that the red MGB is for the couple and it has been shipped to them after their purchase! Unbeknown to us, the BMCU Midweek Madness crew was there for the arrival. The owner’s name is Paul Morgan and he has been emailing with Ron Christensen and myself. We actually got to meet Paul, although we never discussed the arrival of his vehicle. Talk about timing! Good to meet you, Paul!
As the driver was unloading the “B”, he noticed a loose bolt. Ron gets onto the trailer and under the car and discovers a stripped bolt on the left front suspension. Talk about timing!
The group, now approaching 11 vehicles and 20 members, heads off for lunch at the Oakley Diner. After a very nice cruise through Brown’s Canyon, we arrived at the Diner to find that the parking lot is nearly FULL and an orange Jensen is waiting for us. Great timing, Ron! Once everyone found a parking spot, we headed inside, hoping that the restaurant will take our larger than expected group.
Not only did they take all of the BMCU members, but they allowed us to use their banquet room since no one else was using it, today. Once again, it’s all about the timing!
Some back story to yesterday. Usually, over the last three years, we have 4-6 cars and 6-8 members on each of the Runs. Yesterday, however, we almost tripled that number and everything worked out with very few problems. It was ALL ABOUT THE TIMING and yesterday, everything was timed perfectly. Going home was a breeze and I’m looking forward to some more good weather and more MIDWEEK MADNESS RUNS.
And, if we aren’t able to have any more Midweek Madness Runs this season, thanks to all that were able to take some time and enjoy a Midweek Madness Run, this season.
