Again, the BMCU was treated to a wonderful drive through the Wasatch Mountains. This time, however, the route included the Nebo Loop road.
Steen had warned us that this would be pretty much a daylong event and he was not wrong! We met at the Maverik station on the west side of Utah Lake, so no one had an excuse for needing to stop for fuel. From there, Steen led 37 vehicles and 62 members for an incredibly amazing view of the Fall colors across the Lake. After a quick Drain & Gain in Santaquin, we made a stop for a scrumptious lunch prepared and served by Arlene at “the ranch.”
With bellies filled with home cooked vittles, we were off once again to immerse ourselves in Nature’s Fall Color show on the Nebo Loop road. The sign indicated livestock may be ahead and sure enough, the large critters were wandering along, on, and crossing the road. Nothing like a chunk of live beef that is nearly as big as our LBCs to get our attention!
Another quick Drain and Gain at Payson Lake, where we met up with Ritt and his family, enjoying a restful Saturday, fishing. Then we were off and up to higher elevations and more spectacular view. Our concerns about not having much in the way of colorful foliage, quickly and constantly evaporated as turn after turn revealed more and more of Mother Nature’s outstanding displays.
A favorite stop on the Nebo Loop road is the short hike into Devil’s Kitchen. To say that the BMCU owned this stop would be an understatement! The parking was double and triple deep and on both sides of the road. We’ll have to apologize to those non-members who were unable to check out this stop. We had turned the parking lot into another impromptu British car show.
What would you expect next on the road? How about several cowboys and a cowgirl, driving a herd of cattle off the mountain and towards their winter range. It was the wild west all over again. This was certainly a Chamber of Commerce moment!
The group re-organized in Nephi, before heading out in several directions for the trip home. There were lots of smiling faces indicating that a great time was had by all. What a fabulous way to end our 2023 Driving Season! Don McEligot even came from Idaho Falls for this event! Be sure to check out your email and the BMCU Facebook page for hundreds of pictures by Roger H, Ron C, Charles E, and Drew F. I apologize if I missed anyone.
