May 19th was a beautiful day for a beautiful drive! The group from the South met at the capital then met up with us in Kaysville. Taking the back roads through Kaysville and Layton and trying to avoid as many cycilist as possible we made our way down to Antelope Island and out to Garr Ranch. Everyone sat down to lunch and enjoyed the absolutely gorgeous, remarkably buggless day. We had a great turn out:

What an amazing gathering of LBC’s on a gorgeous Saturday morning. For the first time I’ve been with the group, I think we actually met up and joined, on-the-fly, a convoy on the way to the meeting point. I’d like to say it was intentional, but that would be just too much of a stretch! Coming off of a prior day of rain, warnings of “biting” gnats and a cycling event that we can only call the tour d’ Antelope, I think the count of cars was over 22 and had a classic Mini showed up, we most certainly would have hit the 22 and a half mark ;). Winding up the back roads toward Antelope Island Drive, across the causeway, weaving in and out of cycling groups (I think Andrew said it best when he mentioned that right hand drive was a severe disadvantage in that instance to see around them) and down to the Ranch on the island, the sun was out and breeze was calm and lunch was on. There were owls to see and the background sounds of LBC chatter, birds, breeze and Boy Scouts made the afternoon absolutely one to remember. Not to mention, I think there were more cycling stops for repairs than LBC’s, which is a hopefully a great, great sign for things to come for the Memorial Day Drive!!
Keep Motoring,
