The day of this year’s Alpine Loop run presented us with beautiful blue skies and mild weather — unfortunately this was after the run was already finished! The morning was blustery and turned quickly to ran, drizzle, and a bit more rain and cold. Very un-August like weather for Utah.
That said, quite a good sized group braved the weather, put their tops up (or grinned and got wet, in Bill Beecher’s case) and had a great run up over the Alpine Loop road. Jon Hermance led the charge up the hill, with about 18 roadsters and 3 chase vehicles in tow. With only a few minor adjustments every car and driver made it over the pass and on to Heber where we formed our own impromptu damp car show on the lawn of the Heber park.
While we were enjoying our picnics (and the shelter of the pavilion) we were putting in our tickets for this year’s raffle. A huge thank-you goes out to Margaret and Larry Farrington for all their efforts to make the raffle a success. This year’s method of putting in tickets for the items you wanted seemed to be a big crowd pleaser as well. All told we raised a bit over $250 from the raffle and merchandise sales, which will help keep the club going.
A big thanks to all who assisted with the preparations, especially Larry and Margaret for the raffle and drive, and Bill Beecher for handling details with Heber City — if I’ve forgotten anyone else, I apologize and thank you as well! The next official club event is the Miner’s Day parade in Park City on September 7, and there are a few other non-club events coming up as well. As always, keep an eye on the website and get out there and enjoy the last days of summer!
