Yep, it was DeJa Vu all over again. After a week of very sketchy weather, Saturday was an awesome day to be driving a British car. It was just like a couple weeks ago when we had our Eureka Run. After a group determined that it really was a Triumph engine in the TR, lol, we headed south to Springville to regroup and meet with the members from the south. From there, we had 16 vehicles and 24 members in our rolling car show.
Heading up Spanish Fork Canyon was a breeze and a good omen for the steeper climb to come. No one overheated and everyone was able to maintain a good speed on the the way to the Thistle Jct and the scenic highway US 89 . Once we arrived in Fairview, some topped up their gas tanks, some took the time for a Drain & Gain, and we all listened carefully to our guides, Doug & Peggy Wright, as they laid out the plan for the rest of the drive. With everyone in the know, we started up the steep, but beautiful Fairview Canyon.
Near the top of the Canyon we had our first scheduled stop to regroup and make certain that everyone had made it up the almost 2000′ climb out of the valley. There were neither mechanical nor heating problems, so we headed off toward Huntington Canyon. On the way down Huntington Canyon, we made a stop to check out the Crandall Canyon Mine disaster memorial. It is a very nice tribute to the men and rescuers who died, nine years ago.
Just before reaching Huntington, we slowed to a crawl to see a HUGE herd of wild elk that were browsing in a meadow. Such magnificent animals and there had to be near to 100+ of them. A short blast north out of Huntington got us to Price and to Groggs for lunch.
Peggy had made arrangements ahead of time, so when our mobile car show arrived in the parking lot, the folks at Groggs were happy and ready for us. A separate room had been set aside so we could all talk about the trip and what we’d seen. The Groggettes (no offense intended) did an awesome job of taking care of us and getting our food to us in a timely manner. WOW, did it get quiet when the food arrived! It made us laugh at the scary silence that suddenly prevailed with the presentation of our lunches.
After lunch, as is usual, we chose our separate ways to return home. Some retraced the route, some continued west on US Hwy 6, and some, I believe, went north up Indian Canyon. All in all, it was an incredible drive through some spectacular scenery.
Thanks to Doug & Peggy for suggesting this route and working to adjust it to our needs. Your patience, when we needed to cancel the drive last year, due to the hot weather, is commendable. We all left Groggs with smiles on our faces and desires to place this drive in our collection of memorable outings.
