Saturday May 8 was a wee bit damp to say the least. It may be mad dogs and Englishmen who go out in the noonday sun but it‘s dedicated BMCU‘ers that head out in the rain. Seven determined souls in four Brit-type vehicles met at Checker Auto Parts in Kaysville. The two Jags began at the Capitol and drove through sheets of rain on the way to Kaysville but that was the worst of it. After a bit of drizzle the rain stopped and the Antelope Island drive was sunny and cool.
Rainy weather definitely favored hardtops and coupes but nothing can stop an MGB (I don‘t want any snide remarks). A local top down yellow TR6 accompanied the group as far as the causeway. All vehicles performed well.
Kimberly Owens organized the run and led the way across the causeway and south down the island to historic Garr Ranch where lunch was enjoyed at the very nice picnic area—grass, trees, tables and sun- shine. Kimberly and crew brought hot water and chocolate for all.
The Garr Ranch has a lot to offer. Some gear heads in the group spent time trying to figure out how some very old, and long obsolete agricultural equipment actually worked. This was a bit of a challenge for city boys considering many of the antique parts were missing. A very helpful State Park Ranger pro- vided much needed supplemental information.
On the run were Kimberly and Dawn Owens and Dan Ovard (04 MiniCooper); David and Ron Christensen (73 MGB); Larry Bishop (75 Jag XJ12); and Rob Foye (94 Jag XJS).
