By now, you probably have seen the pictures taken by Charles, Ron, and Dave, of the Around the Lake Run. The pictures tell a great deal, but there was a lot going on last Saturday. If you have not seen the pictures, please go and check them out.
The Southern contingent met in the Warm Springs parking lot, only to be held up by the late arrival of Jill and myself. I took our usual route north on 300 West which in the past has been a great way to avoid all the road closure circus that is brought on by the SL Marathon. On Saturday, however, every stop light turned red as we approached it. Not certain as to how many stoplights there are between 3300 South and the Warm Springs lot, but suffice it to say, I stopped for EVERY ONE of them.
Fortunately, the weather was cool, but not raining and the gathered group was busy socializing and everyone was happy that we were a bit tardy; I hope. In the past, we’ve gone north through Bountiful, made a few turns, hit a few stoplights and managed to get the group totally strung out and getting lost. This time, we tried a new route to head north to Ogden and missing nearly all of Bountiful, the turns and a myriad of stoplights. The group headed west to the Legacy Parkway at the first opportunity. What a pleasure it was, not to have to worry about all those stoplights and turns! We all stayed together and had a great run to Ogden. The 55 mph speed limit and lack of trucks on Legacy (soon to disappear, boo) was enjoyable and we’ll use this route again.
We only had one unfriendly thing happen on the way to Ogden and that was the rain that presented itself as we were in the Lagoon area. The precipitation had ended by the time we arrived at the Rainbow Garden lot and everyone was smiling because the weather was turning for the good. The good continued as Kent led us up beautiful Ogden Canyon with the lack of construction that we kept hearing about.
Through Huntsville, Eden, Liberty and up over the North Ogden Divide, we enjoyed excellent weather to view the magnificent scenery. This is one of my favorite Runs that the Club takes. Onto Washington Blvd where we were greeted with lots of waves, thumbs up, horns honking and many smiles. Then continuing south we skirted the end of the Hill Field runway and entered the HUGE parking lot that serves A Little Taste of Britain. Kent had made arrangements and there were tables reserved for us! The food was as good as ever and the service was excellent. No one had to wait very long for the best English food in Utah.
With full stomachs and many carrying “to go” boxes, we split up and headed our various ways, smiling as we drove our LBCs home.
The following 31 members were in attendance. The caveat is that even though printing was requested, even then some spellings were…..? My apologies to those names that I may have misspelled . 😊
