Sometimes we have to wait to the last to have an incredible driving event. Today the weather was cool and rainy. Not the best day for a top down drive. Yesterday, however, was totally awesome! Lots of sunshine, temps were not too hot nor too cold, and the Fall colors, though muted, were still very beautiful. The icing on the cake was the very tasty lunch provided by Steen and Alene to fuel our bodies for one of the best drives of the year; the Mt Nebo Loop.
Signing in or noticed were the following members. My apologies if I overlooked someone or misspelled your name. Elden & Lynda Romney, Rory Mahoney & friend, Mike & Jeanie Ortiz, Steen & Arlene Sorensen, Shelby Stastny & Jeff, Merv & Mary Brown, Rich and Michele Weyland, Craig & Cory Boorman, Clayton & Sharon Merchant, Kent Jensen, Robert Cameron, Roger Hemingway & Ziggy, Spencer Kellog, Roger Hoather, Mitch & Karen Spackman, Charles Edington, Bruce & Nan Oblad, Reed & wife, Ritt & Amy Bowen and there are several others that I’ve missed that weren’t in the sign-in book.
We gathered and Rich & Michele had the new BMCU masks for sale. Business was brisk, so be sure to contact Rich to purchase yours. Steen then led our merry band along the winding and scenic west side of Utah Lake and onto the lunch location. Along the route we saw some large hawks, antelope and lots of black birds. When we arrived at the lunch location, Arlene had lunch ready to feed our hungry bellys. For me, the highlight was the tray of homemade cookies. Yes, I’m guilty of having more than a couple!
With our appetites sated, Steen and Arlene then led us onto the Nebo Loop road. Even though it was Saturday, the canyon traffic was light which allowed for a more leisurely pace and better viewing of the Fall colors. And colors there were! Our LBCs, with splashy colors, snaking their way up the canyon, added to the subdued hues, as if they were brightly glowing falling leaves. At the first stop, we traveled off the main Nebo Loop road to Payson Lake for a quick break. Then it was back to the main road and the incredible view on both sides of the route.
After a couple of other turn offs to see sights, a mandatory stop was made at the Devil’s Kitchen Overlook. The short hike back to this lookout is well worth the view at the end. The comment, “It looks just like Bryce Canyon!” was the common expression of awe when the panorama came into view. If you have not seen this, it’s worth the drive to check it out. Don’t forget your camera and to take a selfie. lol
Arriving in Nephi, it seemed almost sad to think that our excellent day was winding down and it was time to head for home. Several folks opted for the freeway and a group of us extended our drive by enjoying the winding Goshen Canyon. For everyone, the 2020 Fall Color Tour was an outstanding success. Thank you, Steen and Arlene, for your hospitality and scrumptious lunch.
The last scheduled BMCU event will be our End of Season Dinner on Saturday, November 7th. Rich and Michele have arranged for a fun evening with your Club friends. Be sure not to miss the dinner. They will have more information regarding this in upcoming emails. For now, block off Saturday evening, Nov 7th, if you have not already done so.
Don’t the miss the pictures that the Color Tour participants have begun to publish on the group site and on the Club Facebook page.
