The Air Force Base employs over 12 thousand people from the surrounding areas and hosts an annual “Food for Life” drive, open Car Show and Chili Cook Off at this time of year with accessible open aircraft both in the front display area and in the museum which is one of the best in the country. This year we had a little quirk, a monsoon downpour in the early morning hours that cleared around 0900 but deterred a few though there was a good showing of local hardware none the less as the pictures will attest.
And the chili cook off was so enjoyable that I didn’t get pictures of the fourteen or so offerings at the decorated booths with the entertaining cooks and servers as it took two hands to manage the bowl and cornbread. I judged the delightful pot from McCool’s Public House the best and most of us know that name.
So it was a delightful day all around in what turned out to be quite nice weather.
