Antelope Island Run
Saturday, May 10th
Article soon. Pictures below.
Join us for a run out to Antelope Island on Saturday, May 10th. This is a
great run, especially that drive along the east side of the island over to the
Garff ranch: the road has a few twists and turns that are ideal for our small
sports cars.
Here’s the plan:
10:00 am: For those of you in the SLC area, we’ll gather at the state
capitol, in the north side parking lot, at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 10. At
10:30, we’ll leave the capitol and head north, by way of Victory Road, and
onto I-15 NB to Layton, where we’ll get off at exit 335 (Antelope Drive).
Watch for the brown signs directing you to Antelope Island State Park.
11:00 am: If you live in Davis county, or other parts north of SLC, meet
us behind the Burger King on the NW corner of the intersection of Antelope Drive
and Main Street in Layton. That’s just past the second light west of I-15, and
due west across the street from Kmart. If you left the house in a hurry and
didn’t pack your lunch, this is an opportunity to buy something. There’s
only one food establishment on the island, so it’s best to take a lunch with
you.
11:30 am: We’ll head out to the island. If you don’t meet up with us
at the Burger King in Layton, just remember that once you’re on Antelope
Drive, stay on that road and head west until you reach the Great Salt Lake—you
can’t miss it.
Once we’re on the island, we’ll head past the marina and the visitor’s
center over to the west side, near the beaches, and eat lunch at the pavilions.
After lunch, we’ll drive over to the Garff ranch. Along the way, keep a look
out for buffalo, deer, and who knows..maybe even the island’s name-sake
antelope. You’ll find that the ranch is a well-preserved example of a working
ranch house, barns, and other outbuildings that were in use from the late
1800’s up until about 1980. It’s also an interesting history lesson about
the island. After we tour the ranch, we’ll head home.
What to bring: You’ll want to bring a picnic lunch and drinks. Remember to
bring $8
per car (let’s see how many people we can cram into our cars!) to cross the
causeway to the island—that fee goes to Davis County to pay for the causeway
maintenance. Also, it’s been known to rain on us, so don’t forget your rain
jacket just in case!
If you need more information, call Nathan Massie at 801-486-2935, or call the

So get that car ready….and see you on Saturday!
