Annual Pot Luck Dinner and Planning Meeting
February 1st, 2003
The Annual Pot Luck Dinner and Planning Meeting was held at the Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Sandy on February 1st.
After a fine pot luck dinner, Bill Robinson, the current Governor General, started the meeting off by announcing that he was moving out of state. He and Julie will be moving to southern California so that Bill can start a new job. We wish them luck and hope that they can get to Utah occasionally to visit.
Bill's announcement provided the perfect opportunity to start the annual election of the Board of Governors. By general acclaim, Gary Lindstrom was elected Governor General to replace Bill. Jeffrey Porter volunteered to accept the position of Newsletter Publisher, taking over from Nathan Massie who was forced to resign the position last fall due to lack of time. The rest of the board remained the same. Here is the final result:
Gary Lindstrom | Governor General |
Marty Van Nood | Chancellor of the Exchequer |
Bruce Schilling | Membership Director |
Jim "Pugs" Pivirotto | Board Member |
Mark Noeltner | Master of the Web |
Jeffrey Porter | Keeper of the Newsletter |
After the election of the board, the upcoming season was discussed and a tentative schedule worked out. Please see the Lucas Calendar for the results.
Below are the minutes of the meeting including the tentative schedule:
Saturday, February 1, 2003 The meeting was called to order by Bill Robinson. Bill asked for the BMCU members in attendance (members) to observe a moment of silence in remembrance of the Columbia shuttle astronauts, which the members did. Bill then asked for a show of thanks for the 2002 Board of Governors, webmaster, and newsletter editor. The members readily supplied a hearty round of applause. Bill also asked for a show of thanks for Bruce Schilling and Bob Wager for finding the Good Shepard Lutheran Church hall as a last-minute change forced us to find a new venue for the meeting. The members again supplied a round of applause. Officers Our charter requires the members to elect a Board of Governors each year. The Board is selected at our annual meeting. Bill Robinson announced that he could not continue as Governor General for 2003, owing to the fact that he accepted a job out of state and would be relocating within the month. Bill also was acting newsletter editor. The members gave a round of applause as a show of thanks for Bill's hard work and two years' efforts as Governor General. Bill solicited nominations and/or volunteers to fill the Board positions. When the elections ended, the Board consisted of: Governor General: Gary Lindstrom Board Member: Jim “Pugs” Pivirotto Chancellor of the Exchequer: Marty VanNood Membership Director: Bruce Schilling Newsletter Editor: Jeff Porter Webmaster: Mark Noeltner
The calendar of events selected by the members for 2003 include: March 15: St. Patty's Day parade in downtown Salt Lake. Organizer: Bill Van Moorhem. Note: the parade is traditionally the Saturday before the 17th, and we assume this to be the date but have not had any information from the St. Patty's parade organizers. March 22: Tech Session. We need someone to organize this event. April 11, 12, 13: Car Show/funkana at Lake Havasu. For information, contact Bruce Schilling. This event is 575 miles from SLC, but is well worth the drive. April 12th?: (date to be determined) Poker Run. We have not had a Poker Run in a few years. Rob Green (not in attendance) had expressed an interest in such an event last year, so the members unofficially elected Rob to organize this event. April 19: Tinker Day. Mark Bradakis. May 10: Antelope Island Run. Nathan Massie and Mitch Johnson. May 24, 25, 26: Memorial Day Run. This event, organized by Jon Hermance, will not be to southern Utah as in years past, but will be to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Jon gave the members some details, and indicated that more information will be published in the newsletter in plenty of time for hotel reservations, etc. June 7: British Field Day. Sharon Forster. This is a big event like past years, and it's being planned by a group of BMCU members along with members of the other clubs that participate. Please put this one on your calendar and plan to help setup, take down, or help out on the day of the event. June 21: Monte Cristo Run. Bill Walton. July ??: GoF in Long Beach, CA. While not a club event, several members plan to caravan to this national event. More details will be in the newsletter for those who want to join in. July 12: Trial Lake Run. Doug Wimer. August 2: Heber Valley parade. Doug Wimer. August 16: Alpine Loop. Chris Shell and Mitch Johnson. September 1: Miner's Day Parade in Park City. Floyd Inman. September 13: State Street Cruise night. Start at the top of State Street at the State Capitol, and cruise down to Joe Chou's Dairy Queen in Sandy. Mark Noeltner. September 27: Fall Color Tour. Gary Lindstrom. October 11: 50th Birthday Party..... for those cars in the club that are turning 50 years old. Time and place to be determined. October 18: End of the Season Dinner. Probably at the Fiddler's Elbow in SLC. Gregg Smith. November 11: Tech Session. We need an organizer for this event. December: As is traditional, no event. However, Bill and Julie Robinson have hosted a wine tasting party the past few years, and may choose to do so again. Look to the newsletter for details. After the calendar of events was proposed and agreed upon, the meeting was adjourned. Our thanks to all those in attendance and for the wonderful food.
