GoF West 2006 was an Unqualified Success!

I can't believe it's over! After three years of planning the week passed so quickly.

On Monday everyone started to arrive at the GoF West 2006. We tried something different and set up the registration table right out in the parking lot so you wouldn't have to go looking for it. It was great to see the cars as they came in and for us to catch with old friends. That evening we had a short orientation and First Timer's Car Show out at the field we would use for many of the events. Larry Long gave a presentation on the history of the GoF West and told the humorous story of how the Funkhana got its name. We ended the evening by introducing the First Timers and their cars, and welcoming them into our group. Hopefully we will see them all next year in Park City.

You couldn't have asked for a better day or setting for the Tuesday morning Car Show. The entire staff did a wonderful job of displaying the cars on the golf course with the forested hills and blue skies as a back drop.

After the Car Display, over 100 of the attendees motored up to the Timberline Lodge. This is truly a National Treasure that many take for granted. Your Forest Service guides offered the attendees a wonderful tour of the building, pointing out much of the history and the craftsmanship that went into it and its furnishings.

The next morning was Funkhana time. It took you on a tour of the State of Oregon, with a lap around Crater Lake, a little Shakespeare in Ashland, fishing the coast, throwing snow balls on Mt. Hood, taking pictures at Multnomah Falls, and spitting watermelon seeds in Hermiston.

The Rallye Master took us on a little longer than expected tour of the area and threw some questions in to keep us paying attention. The weather was cool but the cars felt right at home and we avoided the overheating that usually occurs.

Thursday brought us to the Tech Sessions. While Slats Wolfe went through the electrical systems and the SU carburetors, the ladies enjoyed a lesson in making sewn postcards.

We wound down the day with our Annual Awards Banquet, where three of the six attendees from the BMCU received awards. This was followed on Friday morning with a Continental breakfast and the Winner's Circle, where we once again had the opportunity to view the Car Show Winners.

Attending from the BMCU were John and Barbara Progess, Jon and Susan Hermance, Mike and Sharon Bailey, Floyd and Kathy Inman, Roger Dotson, and our favorite absentee members, Bill and Julie VanMoorhem.
